Palo Santo Wood for Smudging Purposes
Palo Santo (Bursera Graveolens)
Palo Santo is a mystical sacred tree native to the coastal regions of South America and is closely related to Frankincense, Myrrh, and Copal. In Spanish, Palo Santo translates to “Holy Wood.”
Belonging to the citrus family, Palo Santo carries a beautifully uplifting aroma with sweet notes of pine, mint, and lemon.
Traditionally used for energetic cleansing and spiritual purification, Palo Santo offers properties similar to Sage and Cedar. Burning Palo Santo helps to clear stagnant energy, invite calm and clarity, and deepen your connection to the Earth and your spiritual practice.
Use Palo Santo during meditation, healing sessions, rituals, yoga practices, or simply to refresh the energy within your home, workspace, or sacred space. It is believed to welcome creativity, love, positivity, and good fortune.
The fresh, pleasant smoke is also known to naturally help repel mosquitoes and other flying insects.
Burning Instructions
Light your Palo Santo stick using a candle, lighter, or match. Hold the stick at a 45-degree angle with the tip pointed downward into the flame. Allow it to burn for approximately 30 seconds to 1 minute, then gently blow out the flame.
Move throughout your home, workspace, car, or any area you wish to energetically cleanse, allowing the sacred smoke to drift into corners and around the space.
As you cleanse, you may say aloud:
"I ask that the spirit of Palo Santo infuse this space with blessings, peace, protection, and clarity."
Allow the rich, grounding aroma to fill the air and bring a sense of calm, balance, and sacred connection to the moment.
